National American Teddy Bear Day

Friday, November 14th was National American Teddy Bear Day! The students got to bring a favorite stuffed friend to keep with them throughout the day and we did some fun teddy bear learning activities. We ate porridge for our snack and made a graph of who liked it and who didn't. The tally was pretty evenly split!

Halloween Party

We finally have pictures from the Halloween party! Thank you to all the parents that came in and helped to make this an awesome experience for the kids. It will surely be a memory they will never forget.

How to Tie Your Shoes

Shoe-tying is always a struggle with the little ones. When it starts to snow and we have "wardrobe changes" throughout the day, a student's ability to tie his/her own shoes is going to make a huge difference in the flow of the day. I am posting a couple Youtube videos that have gotten some great reviews. Watch them a few times and give them a try with your little one!

Super-Fast Method
Super-Fast Method explained another way with "Magic Fingers"

Once they achieve this skill, they will get this certificate:

And then they will get the chance to be the sheriff of the day!

Good Luck!

Small Reading Groups

During reading group time, all our students are broken up into small groups where they get extra specialized help in the areas of reading they most need. Some activities they get to do are: writing practice, flash cards, alphabet puzzles, letter hunts, writing letters in salt & gel, or play dough letters! Here is a look at one of groups today.

Coats

As the weather gets colder, we will have lots and lots of coats in our classroom. In order to make sure that everyone gets the right coat at the end of the day, please make sure to label your child's coat with his/her name. We will do our best to get every coat home every day!

When the snow arrives, please also make sure to do the same thing with snow pants. Thanks!

Recap of the Last Few Weeks

Over the past few weeks we have had so much fun learning our letter sounds with our zoo friends. We practice all letter sounds every day, but in the past few weeks we have really focused on A, B,C, M and T. You may have noticed work coming home for these letters. To help our reading and writing we practice the letter sound and name as well as how to write it correctly on the lines. We are also working really hard to identify beginning sounds. Ask your child what his/her name begins with! We are also learning the difference between capital and lower case letters.

We are working really hard on writing our names with only one capital letter at the beginning. The rest of the letters are lower case. We sent home a name sheet with your child's name written 4 times. You can place this under a sheet of white paper and "magically" they can trace their name with a crayon on the blank paper! We have been trying to create "rainbow" names.

In math we have been learning counting to three and sorting into 2 groups. We are also learning how to sort the same groups in different ways.

All of these skills can be easily reinforced at home. If you need any ideas, please let me know! I have a ton of resources for any skill you would like to practice.

Have an amazing weekend!

Healthy Snacks

As part of the new snack guidelines, we have been providing the students with delicious fresh fruits and vegetables. Miss Kris has been doing an amazing job at picking snacks that are not only healthy, but also fun to try. I have been so proud of the students who tried some new things...and asked for more! We have snacked on: tomatoes, peppers of all colors, snap peas, apples and more! Here are some pictures of the kids enjoying some cucumbers.

We are building a zoo!

As part of our phonics curriculum, we associate an animal with each letter sound. We are looking for new zoo friends to add to our collection! I am attaching a list of zoo friends for each letter. If you have any beanie babies that you are no longer collecting at home we would love to add them to our zoo!

We also use them during rest time as buddies. Thank you for all your help!
